Classroom Expectations:

Be respectful - Be responsible – Be Safe

  • Silence personal devices and use with permission.

  • Use technology for educational purposes.

  • Fidget toys, including spinners, are highly distracting and will be confiscated if they are visible or used during class.  The only exception is for a documented school-approved learning plan that specifically allows a student to use such devices, provided the use of allowable devices by the student does not distract other students or the teacher.

  • Do not bring food to this class from the cafeteria or anywhere else.  Drinks must be in completely sealed container.

  • Students are expected to read and abide by the Student Handbook and Student Athletic and Activities Handbook.  In particular, students should understand the consequences for unexcused tardies & absences, and the academic requirements for athletic eligibility.

Be present

  • Attendance is essential.  Here's why you should avoid missing this class:

  • Most work in this class will be completed with a partner.  Your absence is hugely inconvenient to your partner, who may be unable to continue working without you.  It is also unfair if both partners do not contribute equally to the final product.

  • You must make up all missed work to avoid missing key concepts.  It will be EXTREMELY difficult to do so, since you will need to coordinate schedules with your partner and with me, and the materials needed to complete class work must be used in my classroom.

Be engaged

  • Listen, think, ask and answer questions.  Share your ideas and participate.

  • Your engagement and active participation in class will determine your citizenship grade.

Remember...

  • Honor roll eligibility requires a 3 or better in both Citizenship and Work Habits in all classes.

  • Student-athletes must maintain a C or better in all classes.

Materials:

  • Design Notebook:  You will be provided with a design notebook for this class if you do not already have one from a previous PLTW class.  This notebook should remain in the classroom.

  • Bring a pen or pencil with you to class every day.
