Classroom Expectations:

Be respectful - Be responsible – Be Safe

  • Silence personal devices and use with permission.

  • Use technology for educational purposes.

  • Fidget toys, including spinners, are highly distracting and will be confiscated if they are visible or used during class.  The only exception is for a documented school-approved learning plan that specifically allows a student to use such devices, provided the use of allowable devices by the student does not distract other students or the teacher.

  • Do not bring food to this class from the cafeteria or anywhere else.  Drinks must be in completely sealed container.

  • Students are expected to read and abide by the Student Handbook and Student Athletic and Activities Handbook.  In particular, students should understand the consequences for unexcused tardies & absences, and the academic requirements for athletic eligibility.

Be present

  • Attendance is essential to your success.  You need to be in class, actively participating in order to fully understand the course material.

Be engaged

  • Listen, think, ask and answer questions.  Share your ideas and participate.

  • Your engagement and active participation in class will determine your citizenship grade.

Remember...

  • Honor roll eligibility requires a 3 or better in both Citizenship and Work Habits in all classes.

  • Student-athletes must maintain a C or better in all classes.

Materials:

  • Calculators:  We recommend that all students have their own TI-84 graphing calculator or equivalent.  A set of graphing calculators is available for use in class.  Students can download Graphing Calculator Apps on their cell phones (DESMOS, TI-84, etc…) for use outside of class.

  • Pencils and Paper:  Students are required to have pencils and paper in class every day.  Students must bring their own supply of ¼ inch ruled graph paper.

  • Binder:  Students should have a 3 ring binder for this class.  It should be at least 1 ½ inches wide.

  • Textbooks:

Keep your textbook covered.

You will be held strictly accountable for any damage to your textbook.  Currently, the cost to replace your textbook is $90.

Students can register for a course ebook at ebooks.cpm.org by clicking on enroll and then entering the PIN given in class.

Grading:

On ALL class work and homework assignments, work must be shown for EACH problem.  Answers alone are never acceptable.

Assessment Categories:

  • Formative (10%) Homework, class work, quizzes, entrance/exit tickets, and group products.

  • Summative (70%) Projects and Individual Cumulative Chapter Tests.

  • Semester Exam (20%)

Homework:

  • Homework is an ESSENTIAL part of success in AP Calculus.

  • Students are given the opportunity to correct and debrief the previous night’s homework at the beginning of each class.

  • Homework is recorded as collected if it is complete.  A homework completion grade is computed at the end of each chapter.

  • Late homework is accepted for full-credit but is recorded as late.

  • Missing work must be turned in before the Cumulative Chapter Test is taken.

  • If your on-time homework completion grade drops below 80%, your work habits grade will drop to a 2 (< 80%) or 1 (<60%) automatically.

Reassessment Policies:

Students who do not demonstrate proficient understanding of a concept on a summative assessment will have one opportunity to be reassessed per the following requirements:

1.    Students must complete test corrections in my presence or the presence of another math teacher or qualified math tutor.

2.    Students must correctly answer another question on the original topic in my presence.

3.    Scores may be raised to at most partially proficient (3.5) with successful completion of both previous steps.

4.    Test corrections must be completed before the next summative assessment is given.

5.    Students do NOT have the opportunity to reassess semester exams.

Late work and Missing Work:

  • It is the student’s responsibility to collect and complete missing assignments.

  • Each assignment has a due date and deadline for submission as announced by the teacher when the assignment is given.

  • Students should check assignment calendars on my website when absent.

  • Students who are absent on the day a test is given are expected to make it up outside of class time on the next day the student is present at school.

Cumulative Practice

  • At the end of each chapter, student work on Cumulative Practices collaboratively with their assigned study teams.

  • Students may use any resources, including their textbook, on Cumulative Practices.

Cumulative Chapter Tests (Individual Tests)

  • Questions on Cumulative Chapter Tests will include material from previous math classes and previous chapters.

  • All tests in AP Calculus are closed-book (no notes or other resources may be used).

Academic Support is available during teacher access (Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7:45 – 8:30 am) and other times by appointment.
